Congratulations to the following Fort Zumwalt seniors who have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists:

Safia Amerin, West High
Joseph Cassidy, North High

Casey Goltz, West High

Adonia Kouadio, West High
Tanmayee Pydimukkala, South High

Seth Stubblefield, South High

Marshall Vaccaro, West High

The first step in the competition was to be among the almost 1.6 million juniors to take the PSAT/NMSQT last spring. Now named Semifinalists, the next step for these students is to qualify as a Finalist.

Students who become National Merit Finalists are eligible to receive three different kinds of scholarships in the spring. All Finalists will compete for the $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, awarded to 2,500 students on a state-representational basis. There are also corporate sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who meet the criteria for that corporation, for example an employee's child. And there are college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.

National Merit Scholarship Finalists will be announced in February.
