With our growing technology, it is now easier than ever to keep up with your student's progress at school. Through electronic gradebooks, web pages, apps, and email, guardians have almost instant access their student's academic resources and performance. At SMS, our guidance department recommends that parents set up a three tab system to see a pretty comprehensive picture of what is going on in their student's academic world. Those three website tabs are as follows: Gradebook (SIS), Google Classroom, and the Team Website. To help explain how to set up the three tab system, Fort Zumwalt's own Scott Wolz has created a helpful video to walk you through the steps.

Three Tab System

As always, if you have any questions about accessing any of the three websites mentioned in the video, please contact our guidance or main office.

Mr Galati

SMS celebrated Valentine's Day with our Intramural Basketball Championships and some of our favorite teachers getting "PIED" in the face.  We had some very competitive basketball games as the "No Names" wearing pink pinnies won the 6th grade championship, team "Luke Surtin" wearing black pinnies was our 7th grade champion, and the 8th graders, playing in a round robin format, were led by Jorden Williams and won the championships game in overtime on a basket by Bryn Pawlik.  Very exciting games all morning long.

More importantly, our SMS community of teachers, students, and their families came together and raised almost $2000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  SMS teacher, Kris Johnson, along with help from the runner's club and Student Council, held a fundraiser that allowed students to donate money in an effort to see his or her teacher get pied in the face during halftime of the basketball games. Students who donated were placed in a drawing and one from each grade level was drawn to deliver that pie in the face to the winning teacher. Our winning teachers were:  Ms. Herkenhoff - 6th grader, Mr. Oden - 7th grade, and Ms. Tulk - 8th grade.

Many thanks to everyone coming together and making this another great day at SMS!

It’s that time of year in which we welcome incoming 6th grade SMS Mustangs and their families to our annual 6th Grade Preview Night. On Thursday, February 7, 2019 students and their parents had the opportunity to learn about the middle school day, tour the school, and participate in some activities that helped them choose their elective class. As an added bonus, there were some great performances by our own South Middle School band, choir, and orchestra. Many families braved the cold weather and had the opportunity to buy warm spirit wear before the night events began. It was a great opportunity for Dr. Entwistle, our building principal to greet our families. Mrs. Ward, our sixth grade assistant principal shared all in the highlights of starting middle school while many other of our staff members were able to spend time meeting and speaking with our future Mustangs and their families.
