I had a blast visiting Ms. Plummer's class today! After students completed their iReady assessment, they went on to work on phonemes! It is always a great day to be a Mustang!

6th grade math does a great job with incorporating success criteria in their classroom! They have 4-3-2-1 for students to self assess where they’re at within the learning process. Mrs. Hitt had students work projected on the board for students to see and they got to talk in their group and determine if their work was a 4-3-2-1 and then talk about why. This gives students ownership of their learning which has a high impact on their learning! 🧮#ItsAGreatDayToBeAMustang

Ms. Belmar's class was working on their CER's (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning). This is a structured way for students to construct written or verbal responses, especially when analyzing texts, making arguments, or explaining their thinking.

Check out Kristina Johnson—our PE teacher, intramural coordinator, and all-around energy booster at SMS! 🏃‍♀️⚡ She’s all about helping students make memories, stay active, and get moving outside. 🌞 #ItsAGreatDayToBeAMustang

Kristina Johnson teaches physical education and works as the intramural coordinator at South Middle School. She has also worked as a softball and field hockey coach, and she admits she likes to be on the move. She said she encourages students to participate in intramurals because it's a great way to spend time with your friends and join in on a little friendly competition, but more importantly, when students join any activity outside of the school day, they get to be part of something bigger than themselves and will make lasting memories. When asked her No. 1 wellness tip, she said "Put down your phone and get outside. There are actually great apps that encourage fitness, but nothing beats getting outside. Plus, the longer you wait to get active, the harder it is to get started and stay committed."
